L’AI’s Law (Episode 7): The Guardians of Governance
We often view the law as a fortress of dry jargon – impenetrable and cold. But behind the “legalese” lies a world of profound storytelling. In Episode 7 of L’AI’s Law, we archive four exhibits that demonstrate the law’s dominance over executive authority. Exhibit 025 (United Kingdom): When a Prime Minister attempts to silence Parliament, the court steps in with a “wooden staff” of accountability. The ruling in Miller famously declared an unlawful executive decree as null as “walking into Parliament with a blank piece of paper.”
Exhibit 026 (India): In the case of Maneka Gandhi, the Supreme Court established that fairness isn’t a procedural checkbox; it is a “brooding omnipresence” that must pervade every state action. We visualize this as a glowing golden thread weaving through the dark machinery of bureaucracy.
Exhibit 027 (Canada): The Big M Drug Mart case reminds us that in a multicultural society, a state cannot use criminal sanctions to enforce one religion’s day of rest. Freedom means no one is forced to act contrary to their conscience.
Exhibit 028 (USA): Finally, in United States v. Nixon, we see the “Transparent Safe.” While executive privilege is recognized, it must yield when the search for truth in a criminal trial is at stake.
Justice is as beautiful as it is binding. Explore the full infographic to see the anatomy of these limitations.
